Week 3...It's Cold, I'm Moving Back to Brunswick!!!

Okay...so I'm not moving back.  But it IS COLD!!!  BRRRrrrrr.

But...NO SNOW.  So it's just miserably cold with no fun.  Boo!

This was another good week in the Everitt House.

Spencer
On Tuesday night, he flew to Panama City, FL for a meeting Wednesday with 2 companies that are teaming up to build a new pilot plant.  Spencer designed and built a pilot plant for the 1st company (located in Panama City) in 2009 that won an award for Best New Biofuel of 2012.  It was also used to power the engines of the first bio-fuel only flight.  We are very proud of him!!!

Rebecca
We had company over Saturday night for some homemade pizza.  (And man...it was GOOD!!!!)  So...that meant two things: first, I needed to put our Christmas decorations away and second, we needed to clean the apartment   Neither task would be accomplished without help!  So, we took Wednesday afternoon off from school and I packed up the Christmas decorations.  Then we all worked together Saturday morning to clean the apartment.  Phew.  Lots of work, but everything looks SO NICE!!!

Makenzie
Makenzie helped Spencer teach our Family Home Evening lesson on Monday.  It was supposed to be on "Trials"...but they taught about Baptism and the Holy Ghost.  I've been a little nervous (state of shock) about the fact that in less than 2 short weeks, Makenzie will be eligible for baptism.  YIKES!  I wasn't sure she (I) was ready.  After hearing her teach about baptism and the holy ghost, ALL my fears where relieved.  She knows the gospel plan and understands WHY she needs to be baptized.  She's ready.  Now I better get my act together and plan things out (including a birthday party!)

For math, she has moved into a unit on Geometry/Fractions.  On Friday, she worked with Tangrams.  It was lots of fun to try and figure them out with her.

Hailey
Hailey had a great week at school.  She's almost through the lower-case alphabet (we're following the All About Reading curriculum).  She's working on her 7 and 8 math family facts.  She's getting really good at them.  She often helps clean her room or Isaiah's room without being asked.  It is always such a wonderful surprise!  And when she's not working, she really enjoys playing with her tea-set that she got for Christmas.

Isaiah
Isaiah is still a terror!  Notice him in the background of the first picture???  (Go look).  He was trying to escape!!!

He constantly surprises me with how smart he is!  During school this week, I set him down with puzzles (that he and Riley had dumped out).  We have two sets of puzzles that have 4 pictures with 4 pieces each.  He was able to do those without a problem.  Then I gave him the 12-piece wooden puzzles.  And surprise, surprise...he was able to do those as well!!!  The only trouble he had was getting them square in the frame.  But other than shifting the pieces a little, he did all 3 of the puzzles by himself!!!  WOW!

Riley
Riley is a riot!  She has learned the POWER of the word "NO".  And uses it quite often!!!  It's so funny.  She giggles at funny stuff now.  It makes life sunny!

Our family has started a nightly family exercise routine.  We each do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, hand-stands, plank, hula-hoops, and V-sit.  We record how many we do or for how long.  If you do the exercise  you get 5 points.  If you beat your last score, you get 10.  At the end of the month, whoever has the most point gets to decide what we do on our Daddy/Daughter or Mother/Daughter date.  Although we don't record her information, Riley joins in (usually by laying on top of Mommy while she's doing sit-ups, or plank, or V-sit)!

Special School Stuff
In history, we are learning about the rise of Islam and the expanding Islamic nation.  As part of the lesson, we read excerpts from Arabian Nights that told of Sinbad's adventures.  The passage we read talked about his travels in the valley of the snakes.  So...we made our own valley.  I thought the girls would make one or two and then get bored, but they made LOTS.  And then worked on more the next day.  So, we hung them in our hallway and now have our own Valley of the Snakes!!!

Later, we'll make spoon puppets and retell the story for Daddy!

Super-Duper Fun Time
The local Earth Fare grocery store (whole-foods grocery store) has a Kids Eat Free night on Thursday.  If an adult pays $5 for food, up to 6 (that's right SIX) kids get a free kids meal!!!  And...they have crafts and games available!  This Thursday, the Children's Museum came and helped the kids build Dream Catchers.  Makenzie and Hailey did theirs all by themselves.  Isaiah needed some help, but was VERY opinionated about where the thread should go next!  All three turned out wonderful!

Cool Church Stuff
At church today, the kids learned about the Plan of Salvation.  Then the teachers had a cut/paste project for them to do.  I thought the result was a pretty good graphic of my 3 oldest kids!!!

Well...that's a week in our life!
